About a week ago one of my business partners and I went to speak at a school for girls on the importance of having a vision for your dream. I gave them two things to think about and take with them during the time we were together. I want you to think about this as well, okay? The first thing I want you to take with you is that when you think about the future you want to have for yourself use your imagination. Yes seems pretty simple, right? Well the truth is most of us don’t use our imagination to its fullest potential since becoming adults. Why? Well, life has happened to us and people have come in and out of our lives that have had negative influences on us. The things we used to dream about we no longer do because someone has said that it couldn’t happen or that we were crazy for thinking such things. Remember when you were a kid, maybe between the ages of 5-9, your imagination would run wild and your curiosity was at an all time peak. You imagined you were a ballerina, a princess, a police officer, an Olympic gymnast or a professional dancer. We all had BIG dreams as a kid but when we get older our imagination diminishes and we stop visualizing these wild dreams. Well I challenge you today to allow your imagination to go beyond the borders of your mind as you think about and visualize what you want your future to be like. Be bold in what you visualize! If it makes you feel nervous and excited at the same time then you are on to something.
The next thing I want you to do is to create a mindset of what if. My business mentor and others in my life have always posed the following question, “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?” I mean just think about that for a moment. You would do so many wonderful things in your life that would add value to you and to those around you if you knew you couldn’t fail. Here’s what I want you to do (yes I’m giving you homework), take a sheet of paper and write that question at the top and then begin to list all of the things that you would do if you knew you couldn’t fail. I did this exercise about 10 years ago and one of the things on that list was to become a motivational speaker. Well, today I am an empowerment speaker, clarity coach, online teacher and author, so much more than I ever dreamed. I tell you this because something magical happens when you write it down. You bring life to your vision when you right it down.
After giving the young ladies these thing to think on they were lead into an exercise where they created a vision board. A vision board is a board where you display images, words, numbers, etc. that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. It is literally the vision that you hold for your life. Watching these young ladies create the vision for their life was inspiring and I felt honored to be a witness. So in addition to using your imagination, being creative, bold and thinking outside your borders remember to write your vision down. It’s fun to go back and look at what you wrote years from now to see how far you have come. I encourage you to create a vision board for yourself, maybe I’ll do a video on how to create a vision board. What do you think, yes, no? I share with you my vision board at the top of this post that I did back in 2014. I didn’t have a lot on there but they were things that were important to me at the time. Keep in mind that you have to work your vision by speaking it each and every day. When you write it, speak it and create a visual of your dream it can’t help but come to fruition.
